Add a Competency

A Competency represents a skill, licence, certification, training, knowledge, or some other job requirement.

You'll need to be in the 'Training_managers' permission group to be able to add or edit a Competency.


Go to the Training module, choose "Competencies" (1), and click on "Add competency" (2):


Then fill in the details. 

  • Name is what you'll see in the drop-down list to choose a competency requirement for a job, and when you're adding a training record.
  • Description: some additional information on what the competency covers, e.g. a course number, course content, links to relevant documents, etc.
  • Expire every and expire period: these fields work together to define how long this training is valid for, e.g., 3 years, 6 months, etc. It's used to calculate the expiry date for Training records.

Click "SAVE".


Once you've saved the Competency, you can add other information.

Link to Related Items

You can link a Competency to related items, such as a Document, an Asset, a Risk. The link automatically works both ways.


Add Tasks

You can add tasks related to the Competency and assign them to yourself or other users. e.g.,

  • add a task as a reminder to develop or revise course materials
  • add a task for a Supervisor to train their group, or
  • add task(s) for individual users to read and acknowledge they have understood the related document(s).
